A free fantasy writing comp inspired by Terry Pratchett
The death of an esteemed and much loved fantasy writer inspired the staff of Inkitt writing platform to run their website’s first fantasy themed writing contest.
“The sudden death of Terry Pratchett was the reason for us to run the first contest,” says Ali Albazaz, Inkitt’s creator. “But the stories that were submitted were so good that we wanted to throw another one.”
Epic Worlds: A New Adventure, asks fantasy writers to “take millions of readers on an epic journey with your best fantasy stories. Submit ancient tales about dragons and griffins, or tell your vision of the future through a science fantasy story. Unleash your imagination and show what you’ve got, write a truly unforgettable fantasy adventure.”
Based in Berlin, Albazaz says Inkitt.com was created out of the need for he and his friend Linda Gavin to find a place to submit their writing.
“Inkitt came out of the frustration I felt when I couldn’t find a good place to publish my work and get constructive feedback from a friendly community,” he says. “I created Inkitt as a test to see if there was any demand for what I was looking for. The response was so good that I decided to save up money so I could quit my job and build Inkitt full time.”
Albazaz has been writing since his teens, mostly in journals, but says Inkitt now takes up most of his writing time.
“My current project is a thriller about a persecuted blogger who’s hiding out on an island in a secret location…but it’s hard for me to convince myself to make time for my own writing while helping thousands of writers that are far more talented than I am.”
Here’s the Epic Worlds: A New Adventure competition lowdown:
Submit your best original fantasy fiction stories of up to 15,000 words. And, as always, there is no entry fee. The top 10% based on reader votes get the chance to be picked by the Inkitt staff for prizes. Learn more…
