Angels sighted at sci fi Convention
Easter weekend found me enjoying my Sunday at Sudima Hotel for Reconnaissance Convention. With the steaming beauty of Rotovegas all around us, we soaked up the writing knowledge and fan fun.
I attended Darusha Wehm’s panel on hard science fiction where the panellists wowed me with their extensive knowledge of sci fi everything – got some great book recommendations. Jean Gilbert defended her position very well! I also enjoyed David MacDonald’s interesting session on Religion in Science fiction, followed by a fantastic panel about how writer’s write.
With a floating market complete with Steampunk knives, lots of great coffee plus a few good walks around the area, Reconnaissance was a great place to catch up with old friends and make new contacts.
The day ended up with the Sir Julius Vogel Awards and A Mer-Tale missed out on an award. But I wasn’t too worried as I’d had a brilliant time and was so pleased that many of the people I knew received awards.
Thanks to Eileen Mueller for guiding me around and lots of chats. Thanks to Jean, Uwe and Andi for a lovely lunch and great conversation. Thanks to the organisers for a well run day.
I came away inspired to write more, do better and aim high.
